What the token does

The Apps and Books content token, often called the VPP token, lets Vamiq read the apps and licences your organisation holds in Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager) and assign them to devices.

There is one token per Apple Business location. If another device management service already uses a location, use a separate location for Vamiq.

Connect the token

  1. Download the token from Apple Business

Sign in to Apple Business as an administrator and download the content token for the location you want Vamiq to use. Keep the .vpptoken file exactly as Apple provides it.

  2. Connect it in Vamiq

Open Applications → Apple Business and choose Connect Apple Business token. Upload the .vpptoken file, or paste its contents if you can’t upload a file.

  3. Save and check it

Choose Save & validate. Vamiq checks the token with Apple and stores it encrypted.

  4. Check the connection

Applications → Apple Business shows the Apple Business organisation, the token’s expiry date and when it last synced.

  5. Sync your apps

Choose Sync now. Vamiq brings in the apps you hold licences for, with names and icons where Apple provides them, and lists each one under Licensed apps with its total, used and available licences.

Renew the token every year

Apps and Books tokens last a year. Vamiq shows the expiry date and a warning on Applications → Apple Business as it approaches, and emails the first Organisation Admin in your workspace 30, 7 and 1 days before it expires. Download a new token from Apple Business, then choose Upload renewal token and Save & replace token. Syncing and licence assignment carry on without disconnecting.

Disconnecting the token

Disconnect token deletes the apps synced from Apple Business, their group and enrolment-link assignments and their install records in Vamiq. Apps you added another way stay, and apps already on devices stay installed.

Questions

How long does an Apps and Books token last?
One year. Renew it before the expiry date shown in Applications → Apple Business.
Is the content token the same as the VPP token?
Yes. The Apps and Books content token is the file older guides call the VPP token; its name ends in .vpptoken.
Can two device management services share one location?
Use one service per location. If another service already uses your main location, create a separate location in Apple Business for Vamiq.
What happens to installed apps if we disconnect?
They stay installed on devices. Vamiq removes the synced apps and their assignments from its catalogue.
