When a company iPhone or iPad is lost or stolen, act from Vamiq: lock it and show a message for whoever finds it, or erase it to remove company data. Each lock and erase is recorded in the audit log.
Lock the device
Open the device
In Devices, choose the device and open its Actions.
Lock it with a message
Choose Lock device, add a lock-screen message and a contact phone number for whoever finds it, then choose Lock device again. You may be asked to confirm it’s you.
Check that it locked
A device that is online locks within minutes, and Action history shows the lock as acknowledged. A lock request waits up to an hour for a device that is offline; after that, cancel it if it still shows as pending and lock the device again.
Erase the device
Choose Erase device
In Devices, open the device’s Actions and choose Erase device.
Confirm it
Give a reason, type the device’s exact name, choose Erase device again and enter a code from your authenticator app.
Approval
If two-person approval is on, a second administrator approves the erase before anything is sent.
Erase
A device that is online is erased within minutes, and Action history shows the erase as acknowledged. An erase request waits up to 24 hours for a device that is offline; after that, cancel it if it still shows as pending and send it again. Erasing removes everything on it, so lock it first if you expect to get it back.
Questions
- Can Vamiq show where the device is?
- No. Lock the device with a message and a number to call, so whoever finds it can return it.
- How do we stop an accidental erase?
- Erase needs a stated reason, the device’s exact name typed back and a code from your authenticator app, with optional two-person approval.
- Who can lock or erase devices?
- Organisation Admins can lock and erase. Device Operators can lock; they can erase or clear a passcode only if you grant them that permission.
