Your field app on every work phone
Enrol company iPhones and iPads, install your app, and see which devices are behind. Three field examples, a cost example and what to do on the last day.
Updated
The app is built. The rollout stalls.
Last checked: 21 October 2026, against the Apple pages listed under Primary sources at the end of this guide.
Field teams work away from the office, on shared iPads in a depot or on phones in a van. The app is ready, but getting it onto every device, keeping it current and taking it back when someone leaves is where rollouts stall.
Vamiq enrols your company iPhones and iPads, installs your apps on them and keeps their settings and updates in view, from one workspace. Your field app can be a custom app made for your organisation in Apple Business, an App Store app you hold licences for, or an in-house app if your organisation is in the Apple Developer Enterprise Program.
Three field examples
These are examples of how teams set things up, not customer stories.
- Example: 30 shared iPads in a warehouse. Enrol them once with the shared QR code on a poster in the office, group them as Warehouse, and assign the scanner app to the group. The app installs on each enrolled iPad, which may ask someone to accept it.
- Example: 200 iPhones bought through Apple Business. With zero-touch enrolment, the phones are assigned to Vamiq by serial number before they ship. Staff unbox them, join Wi-Fi, and each phone arrives enrolled, ready for its apps.
- Example: seasonal staff. Use one shared enrolment link that works until you revoke it. When the season ends, unassign the group and the apps are removed from managed devices.
Day one, day 100, last day
- Day one: a new starter’s iPhone enrols by link, QR code or zero-touch, and joins a group. The group’s apps install on it; the person may be asked to accept.
- Day 100: you see each device’s software version, which devices are behind the latest Apple release and which have stopped checking in, and the status of each app install.
- Last day: remove the person’s access to your apps, then lock or erase their company iPhone or iPad. Each step is a separate action, recorded in the audit log.
Lost or broken devices
Lock or erase a lost iPhone or iPad. Each lock and erase is recorded in the audit log.
Erasing a device or clearing its passcode needs a stated reason, the device’s name typed to confirm and re-authentication, with optional two-person approval for erase.
A replacement device enrols the same way as the first. Add it to the person’s group, and the group’s apps install on it.
What it costs
Up to 5 devices are free. Beyond 5, each device is £1 a month or £10 a year, with no base fee and no minimum.
Example: a field team of 50 company iPhones costs £45 a month, or £450 a year, before tax.
Your own branded app store and release controls are Distribution, £29 a month or £219 a year, if you want them.
Prices in GBP, excluding VAT, GST and other sales taxes, which are added at checkout where they apply.
Frequently asked questions
- Do the devices need to be new?
- No. Company iPhones and iPads can enrol with a link or QR code. Zero-touch enrolment is for devices your organisation buys through Apple Business; Apple says devices bought with your Apple Customer Number or Reseller Number appear in Apple Business automatically.
- Will staff have to do anything?
- They open the enrolment link you send, or a device bought through Apple Business sets itself up out of the box. After that, Vamiq installs the apps you assign; the person may be asked to accept.
- Can we see who has the latest version of our app?
- You see the status of each install on each enrolled device, so you can tell which devices are behind.
